THE GHETTO PART 7
Every Saturday there are competing disco sounds in the ghetto. We are visiting one of them now. The night is totally dark with a velvet feel which gets stronger by every draw from the spliff. Not a street light in sight. In the ghetto, these are closed down or shot down. But bright colors light up the empty plot where a crowd has gathered around a sound system. By the entrance, the smell of curry goat at one dollar per serving is stronger than the ever-present smell of sinsemilla weed. I-Roy takes the microphone from the young apprentice DJ and the crowd is ready to dance ”till broad daylight”.
SOUND
Dillinger: Dread a de ruler. From the LP "Answer me Question", Gee's Records
(USA), 1978.
Dillinger is an extremely versatile DJ/singer. Here he is probably on his most "hard-core", musically. Strictly dread. Also, I chose this sound because the lyrics is quoted in the book's piece of the day.
