REGGAE
PART 10Saturday night. A crowd of 200-300 people gathered at the disco. Outdoors, like always. Perry’s young disc-jockey doesn’t do any talk-over. But dozens of others do. It looks like just about every DJ in town is popping in, doing a little show, then out again, probably to the next disco down the street. The darkness is smooth, the curry goat is hot, the music is driving us mad. A normal Saturday night in Kingston.
SOUND
Lloyd Parkes and We the People: The feeling is right. On a Disco-45 also
featuring U-Brown, Studio One, 70's (next page).
Lloyd Parkes is really a bass player, but he has doubled as a
backup-singer occasionally turning into a solo singer. This sound, certainly
from the early or mid-70's, is about as typical a dance sound as you can
get.
