The Ghetto
The Ghetto is closeness. Closeness to life’s hardest sides, and to brotherhood, and to sharing.
We live in the ghetto because that’s what they’ve offered us, the rich, those who own this country. For three hundred years they kept us as slaves, only to steer us into the ghetto.
But even here we are not allowed to live in peace. They send their police dogs into the ghetto because that’s where we smoke our ganja. They’ve prohibited the ganja because they don’t smoke it themselves.
The Ghetto is the only thing they’ve given us. The ghetto is the only place that is ours in a strange land.
Ghettoen
Ghettoen er nærhet. Nærhet til livets hardeste sider, og til fellesskapets gjensidighet.
Vi lever i ghettoen fordi det er det de har budt oss, de rike, de som eier landet. I tre hundre år har de holdt oss som slaver, for så å stue oss ned i ghettoen.
Men tro ikke at vi får leve i fred her i vår fattigdom. Nei, de sender politihundene på oss, fordi vi røyker vår ganja. Det har de forbudt, for de bruker ikke ganja selv.
Ghettoen er det eneste de har gitt oss. Ghettoen er det eneste som er vårt i et fremmed land.
